Overall, Elodie is still a happy kid, getting more independent everyday and soaking up knowledge and vocabulary like a sponge.
Physical stuff
- At her 2 year old checkup, she weighed ~27.5 pounds (64th percentile) and was 35 inches tall (87th percentile).
- She finally has a good amount of hair, and it's curly and getting long now. She has never had a haircut yet! She could definitely use a bit of a trim, especially her front bangs, but I love her curly baby hair and am sad to cut it.
- We went to the dentist for the first time around her 2nd birthday, and she has all but four molars in. No cavities, and she has been really good about letting us brush her teeth ever since we went to the dentist!
- Eats well, and her favorites have been pretty much the same for a long time: fruit, cheese, meat (chicken, turkey, pig's feet, you name it!), yogurt, edamame, soup and rice, and she LOVES my stir fried green beans with pancetta (one of the few veggie dishes she'll gobble up) with rice
- Sleeps well -- goes down around 8 - 8:30pm, wakes up around 7:30 - 8am, with one nap in the afternoon (1.5 - 2 hours)
- Very active -- lots of running, jumping, climbing, etc. She has a scooter and a balance bike now, and is pretty good on the scooter (though she prefers walking it than riding it), and is getting used to her balance bike (it's a little too big for her right now.)
- She's been healthy for the past few months (knock on wood!) but went through a bout of sicknesses/injuries, with pneumonia in early Feb, Hand Foot Mouth disease in mid-March, then she had to get 3-4 stitches under her chin in late March (she fell down some steps on our backyard deck and got a deep cut).
Other developments
- She is talking a ton, and she continuously surprises me with the concepts she understands. I can't think of many good examples right now, except for chronological order ("do this first, and THEN that after"). Other cute/surprising exchanges just today:
Me: Do you want a peach or a pouch?
E: A pouch!
Me: [Realizing I shouldn't have offered her a pouch] How about a peach?
E: Hmm... How about a pouch? :)

Me: When we get home, you can have some coconut water or bubbly water
E: I want coconut water ONLY!

- She knows most colors and animals.
- She has also started saying she's scared of a lot of things. "I scared of the cars, mama!" Things she has said she's scared of: cars driving by, the garbage truck, some dogs (but not all), lions, peacocks (she remembered seeing a peacock at a garden with Ama/Akong, and was scared to see a peacock at the zoo), etc.. She also says she's scared of falling / hitting her head if she's up on a changing table, so we always change her diaper on the ground (on top of a changing pad).
- Once she turned two, she "graduated" to the preschool class at her daycare, and they have lessons on different topics everyday. She is learning so much from the curriculum, which is based on practical use topics/themes like water: washing hands, bath time, laundry, washing dishes, ice vs water vs steam, etc... She also learns from the other older kids. She recently started telling me "NO! Go away, mama!" I bet she learned that from one of the other girls haha.
- She recently started recognizing the capital letter "E". Now when she sees an "E" in a book or on a sign, she points it out and exclaims "E for Elodie!" :). She's also starting to recognize "L" and "O" more regularly.

- Her stuffed animals -- I mentioned in the 21 month blog post that she had 5 stuffed animals she slept with. Well now, she has around 15!! She has a full-on zoo in her crib, and sometimes wakes up in the middle of the night and cries if she realizes one of the animals is missing. She often plays in bed with her animals and her blanket when she's supposed to be going to sleep. She also sings when she's supposed to be falling asleep (it's really cute haha)
- Elodie wants me to sing to her the "Elodie song" every night before she goes to bed. This is the song that her Akong (grandpa / Eric's dad) wrote for her first birthday. She won't go to bed without me singing it to her.
- Elodie's self-soothing / comfort position is sucking on two fingers on her left hand, while using her right hand to reach under her shirt to hold onto her left armpit. See photos above. She gets upset if she can't reach her armpit (sometimes while she's in her carseat) and yells out "armpit! armpit!"
- Drawing. She LOVES to draw and can keep herself occupied for a long time scribbling. She always commands us to draw something (e.g., a whale), and once we do, she then insists on us drawing two more whales -- she always needs to have a baba, mama, and baby version of everything.
- She also refers to sizes of things as baba (large), mama (medium), and baby (small). So at the airport, we were looking out the window at airplanes, and she said "There's a baba airplane and a baby airplane!" and sure enough, there was a huge one and a small one next to each other.
- Reading books. Current faves include: I Want My Hat Back, Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, Zin Zin Zin The Violin, and too many others to name! She can often say the lines in the book / recite them out loud to us
- Climbing and sliding at the playground
- Music. She was obsessed with listening to "The Lonely Goatherd" (yodeling song from Sound of Music) for a while, but now her current obsession is "Do Re Mi." She can sing quite a few songs on her own, including ABC, Twinkle Twinkle, Do Re Mi, Elodie song (written by Akong), The Red Train (also written by Akong), Finger Family, Jingle Bells, Wheels on the Bus...
- Sabine and Owen are her two favorite friends (they live in our neighborhood). When we came home today after a weekend away, she immediately asked to see Sabine and Owen :).
