Some highlights from the past two months.
- Elodie started walking! She has been cruising for a very long time (walking while holding onto something), and loves to walk while holding onto our hands or fingers, but has been too scared to walk completely on her own. If we tried to let go of her hands, she would just sit down. But at Minhae's wedding (right before she turned 14 months old), Elodie took her first steps on her own! She has progressed so much in the past few weeks, and now loves to walk, and actually doesn't want to hold my hand as much anymore.
- She now has four teeth. She loves brushing her teeth using a baby toothbrush shaped like a banana. She understands when I say "let's brush your teeth!" and points to her toothbrush and starts mimicking the motion of brushing her teeth.
- I'm not sure exactly how tall she is, but she weighs about 22 pounds. She still seems like a tall and lean baby.

- She can say a few consistent words (mama, ba, book, bird, bye bye, etc) and she is babbling a ton! She says all sorts of sounds (much more variety in her sounds and consonants than before), and after she babbles, she gives me a look like "you understand me, right?"
She says "boo" consistently for a few different words, like dog (every time she sees a dog, she points and says "boo").
- She started at a new daycare in June. We switched to another home daycare, and this one is much more convenient for us because it is in our neighborhood (1 min drive or 7 min walk). This new daycare also provides food (easier for us plus Elodie gets to try new foods), and is much more organized, structured, and cleaner than the original daycare. Elodie seems to like it there, and we are happy with the switch!
- Relatedly, ever since Elodie switched daycares, she has been exhausted by her bedtime and has been going down to bed so easily on her own! After her bath / bedtime routine, we just out her down in her crib and leave the room, and she will be passed out within a few minutes. No nursing or bottle needed! This has been the case for the past few weeks, but the weeks before that, she had been having a really hard time falling asleep. So I think it all comes and goes in waves.
- Elodie loves to eat, and our daycare provider said she's amazed at how much she eats. She is always excited to eat food, and is fairly open to trying new things. However, milk is a whole different story. Elodie doesn't like drinking cow's milk, so for a long time, I was trying a lot of different options (different types of straw/sippy cups, blending cow's milk with fruit, using almond milk or coconut-based milk, etc.). She will now consistently drink cow's milk if it is mixed with some yogurt smoothie (store-bought... easier for me than blending her own fresh fruit smoothie everyday). In the past few days, she has started drinking a little bit of plain cow's milk on its own, so hopefully she will drink it more and more!
- Elodie has changed a lot in the way she plays with her toys and is advancing in her understanding of how things work. For example, with board puzzles -- she used to just grab and throw all the puzzle pieces, but now, she tries to put the puzzle pieces back into their correct place on the board. Also, she has had a shape sorter for a long time (a ball with shapes cut out, and you put the small shape pieces into the holes). She recently started putting the correct pieces into the correct holes (with some help from me sometimes, but still!).
She loves playing with bags/purses, and can spend a long time taking things out of a bag, and putting them back in. Especially my purse! I give her a little ziplock bag and put a few random pieces/toys in there, and that can keep her occupied for a while.
She also understands some simple things now. Today, I asked her "where is Elodie's bellybutton?", and after showing her a few times, she understood where her bellybutton is, and also started lifting up my shirt to poke my bellybutton!
